Ear Conditions and Treatment

The ear plays a vital role in our body’s hearing and balance functions. Symptoms related to the ear can vary widely, including ear pain, itching, discharge, hearing loss, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), and dizziness. In some cases, these ear-related symptoms might stem from underlying issues in the nasal passages or throat.

For a thorough evaluation and management, your visit may include several diagnostic and treatment procedures such as otoscopy (an examination of the ear), microscopic examination with magnification, ear cleaning, nasoendoscopy (an examination of the nasal passages and throat), and a hearing test.

The throat plays a crucial role in taste, swallowing, and speech. Common symptoms affecting the throat can range from a sore throat, a sensation of a lump in the throat, difficulties with swallowing, changes in voice, bad breath, altered taste, to coughing up blood-stained phlegm. If you notice persistent swelling or an ulcer in your mouth, it is advisable to seek an evaluation from an ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) specialist.

During your appointment, a comprehensive examination of the head and neck will be conducted, including otoscopy (to check the ears), nasoendoscopy (to inspect the nasal passages), and palpation of the neck. If any abnormality or lesion is identified, a biopsy may be performed in the clinic for further analysis.

If you noticed a swelling in your neck that has persisted for several weeks, consulting with an ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) specialist is recommended. Such swellings can be either painful or painless and might remain despite the use of antibiotics. They may also be accompanied by symptoms affecting the ear, nose, and throat areas.

During your visit, a thorough head and neck examination will be conducted, which includes otoscopy (to examine the ears), neck palpation (to feel for abnormalities), and and nasoendoscopy (to inspect the nose and upper aerodigestive tract). Additionally, a fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) may be performed on the swelling to collect a sample for analysis. If necessary, further scans may be scheduled to provide a more detailed assessment.
